This 1838 Large Cent has verdigris on the reverse. I have tried Verdi-Gone (invented by our CCF friend BadThad) and it has worked somewhat.

Now, my needed advice: Will it work more than it already has on this coin? Should I try again?

The Verdi-Gone has lightened the reverse a bit, which I don't mind too much, but I don't really want it to lighten it a whole lot more.

Thoughts?

Hey Moe.. nice large cent

The coin may have 'lightened' because some of the stuff came off and the actual color of the coin is coming through - anything else you use, if it removes more stuff, will more than likely do the same thing. That said, I've found verdi-gone to be the most gentle out of everything I've tried on verdigris that actually works. It should keep working if you wanted to put it in some more. I usually keep it in until I notice the verdi-gone turning blue or purple, then swap it into some fresh. When it stops turning color and I haven't noticed a difference in a while, then it's probably done.

Did you happen to take any 'before' pictures?
