This topic maybe should have been posted in the Auctions Forum section, but since there's so many eBayers in the group who seldom look at the ebay section, I'm posting it here in the Main Coin Forum.

I sent an email to Win Bent, the software developer of ToolHaus, the online site where a potential ebay buyer may read only the negative, neutral, and mutually withdrawn feedbacks of any particular seller (or buyer; skipping all the positive feedbacks) asking if there was any means by which ToolHaus could show the negs via the ebay Singapore site where "private" bidders and their associated auction numbers are not permitted. It took three weeks, but he sent me back an email with the URL which utilizes the Singapore site, also thanking me for the inspiration [/brag]. We now have a new tool to combat fraud. Here's the new site:

http://toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs-sg

The limitations are that it will show only negative/neutral feedbacks Received (not Sent) without the mutually withdrawn feedbacks and when checking out a particular auction, the auction number needs to be clicked a second time if it's an ebay North America (or other location) listing (can also be pasted into ebay's Search function).

Here's an example of what comes up from one of our favorite sellers who lists all his auction bidders as "private" thus, until now, making an association between a buyer and the winning auction impossible:

http://toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs-sg...=Received+by

Here's the original ToolHaus which covers ebay sellers in locations other than Singapore but will not reference auction numbers for sellers who keep their bidders "private":

Because Win Bent went to extraordinary efforts to accommodate my request, I sent him some support via PayPal. He deserves it.

How about this what is you have had a positive experience with a buyer and you leave positive feedback then something comes up which you think other sellers should know - How would you post that?

Richard, that's a problem (one of many) with ebay's feedback system. If things go south with an auction down the road after one has already posted a Positive Feedback, the only thing that can be done now is to post a supplementary comment along with the original feedback. No feedback rating (pos, neutral, neg) change is possible. And ToolHaus would not access a negative comment under a positive feedback.

ebay's feedback system is long overdue for an overhaul.

That is a high-caliber shot into the heart of the corruption, Fred. What a heckuva thing. We have to get word of this out, everywhere we can.

Edit: I've dropped the news at another forum and CU.

If somebody belongs to the Coins and Paper Money Forum, that would also be a good place to post it. I haven't posted there in years.

A Post Script just in from Win Bent:

"Try it now - I've added Mutual Withdrawal reporting. It turns out that eBay-SG includes a MW icon in the output... the icon doesn't seem to exist on their servers, but that's okay, because the Negs tool detects that they put it in the FB entry, and that's all we need!

"It's important for you (and all users) to know that one thing missing from this Beta version is caching: Normally, the Negs tool stores the info from ebay in a cache on Toolhaus, so that subsequent checks on a user are finished more quickly. This version does no caching, so it gets all the data every time, and so it will always run more slowly than the non-SG version."

On a similar note I saw this posted recently and thought others might find it useful. I was surprised it does tell you how many watchers are watching an auction.
