Hi everybody, I'm leaving tomorrow morning to the shore and I may get a chance to visit a coin shop. I need to get self-sealing 2x2's. How much is too much to pay for them? I really have no idea what they are selling for and I don't want to spend more than I need to. I appreciate any comments. Thanks!!

Hi thingee...I just switched over to airtite holders myself.. Price can depend on what size you need. Check out https://www.airtiteholders.com - they range from .89 for your smaller coins to 1.05 to one's that hold dollars. I think that these may be the "Suggested Retail Prices" because any coin shop that I go to has them for these prices. However, I usually buy my supplies from http://brent-krueger.com/airtite.html ..Same holders run from .67 for smaller to .79 for the dollars. ~christina

I pay $3.00 per hundred, any denomination for the 2x2's from my dealer. I've seen them for less on the net though.

I gave up on cardboard/mylar 2x2s a while back. I now use flips and a heat sealer. Good quality archival flips (SAFT) can be bought fairly cheaply JPsCorner or Brent Kruger and $30 will get you an impulse sealer on ebay. The only problem I have now is getting the sealer off my wife who likes to re-seal chip bags etc with it..

How Ironic! My Collector friend, Who I met through the net who lives in Kuwait! Fantastic, I asked him to order some 2x2's and albums for the 2x2's
They were Airtight, and for all sizes, I paid $5 for a hundred which was good. I had a little problem buying them from: www.kaymarie.com
We didn't lose any money but we ordered in March and the item was withrawn twice so we reordered from another site.
I forgot the name, it's umm.... I don't remember: www.jakes.....com

I thought cardboard 2x2s were not air tight? At least not as tight as actual air tight holders.

Ha ha!!I do happen to have a heat sealer that I use almost everyday. It certainly is handy. I sometimes go through a sealer- happy mode and seal just about everything in sight!! I didn't know they had holders like the ones you mentioned. I'll check that out at the coin shop tomorrow first. What's a good price for a box of one hundred

Shasti, I think they are refering to the 2 x 2's that have a glue seal, you don't need staples. Image: SelfStick2x2_.jpg14.07 KB I just bought some a while ago and like them, but they aren't as cheap as the staple 2x2's. A pack of 50 cost about $6.00 inc tax. Margaret

You're right Margaret. Those are the ones I was originally referring to.

I receive a great number of Euro coins in these self sealing 2X2's and have found out, over a period of time, they tend to come unglued! I have stuck to stapling or using the regular airtites on all coins I intend to protect.

I like the round airtite holders.
I saved a lot of money by ordering directly from the manufacturer, I think in Arkansas.

Sorry, I should have read the posts more carefully. The thread was about 2X2's which are air tight. Not airtite holders.
Again, sorry.

Couple of questions... doesn't the glue have an effect on the coin(in the long run? I know it wouldn't touch the coin but its in the air close to it. Also are archival flips good for the long run?

Actually Shatsi, it doesn't, well, if you put it porperly, and the apply a tiny ammount of glue.
Hasn't ever affected my coins!

I've bought many coins that have been in the cardboard 2x2's for 30 years or so and there doesn't seem to be any damage. If you've ever pulled those little suckers apart you'll find that they seem to be pretty air-tite. They are lined with a material that sticks together but, not to the coin itself. I would do the air tite holders for "special" coins but, not my type sets until I purchase/trade for higher grade coins. That's just me!
