This one's been lightly wiped in the past. I sure wish folks could have resisted that. It's got a few more hairlines than what shows in these photos, but it's not real bad. It's the Barber quarter representative in my 7070 for now. I say UNC details, lightly cleaned.

I see some light wear on the eagles talons and lines on the shield. AU-58 cleaned.
Rest in Peace

If its worse than the pics, I'd say maybe wiped on the obverse, but net MS-62 at worst. IMO 'cleaned' is a bit too harsh. It's a very nice coin and has a lot of eye appeal left. The wing tips and the hair do not appear to have wear, making me think this is an UNC.

I'm going to agree with echizento's grade. Here's my reasoning:

I think it could end up graded AU 58 without a problem designation, though. Seems to be the case for a lot of MS coins with minor wiping etc. My BQ was graded ANACS AU-58, very clean surfaces but a touch of visible wear in the hair.

Your '08 sure is a whole lot better strike than the 96, Dave. I know the pre-1900 half dollars in this series were of higher relief than the early issues, and I suspect that the early dated quarters were also more lightly struck. The bust of Liberty on the '08 has a much fuller cheek, and way more hair detail, and the eyelid is different. I think these differences are a product of revision to the design more than the result of wear.

I paid AU-53 money for the '96, so while it wasn't dirt cheap, I think it was reasonable.
