Hi, I'm a bit confused about fees for receiving payment on paypal.

Is the following true?

If I have a personal account, I can receive money from people using their checking account FOR FREE, but not credit cards.

If I have a Premier/Business Account, I can recive payment from credit cards FOR A FEE, and also from checking accounts FOR A FEE.

Thanks

Yup, you are basically correct. BUT, even with a personnal account, once you except just 1 payment on a credit card, from then on, you pay fees on ALL transactions--IF with your personnal account you NEVER except payment from a credit card, then you ever pay any fees. If I'm wrong I am sure someone will correct me. I also did not know what happened. I was receiving payments OK then one day I started getting nailed for fees. From then on, I get nailed on fees for everything. (BTW, there is no way to go back, unless of course perhaps you open up a new account. Even so, how can you tell what method the buyer used? Even if you state in the auction bank to bank only (cash), once the dude goes in there, he can still use CC). I then found out it was because a winning bidder payed his bill to me using a CC. What bothers me some is the fact that back then, donno if it is still so today, you CAN'T tell by what method the user is paying with, whether it was cash or CC.

I had to updrade my personal account. Too many times people would use a credit card via PayPal even when I clearly stated that I had the free account and couldn't accept CC's. I ended up losing a few sales as they didn't pay by my methods.

Yes I spend two hours reading all and sundry on paypal
The flow of the info is so bad I had to read it all
A private account seems free if you stay in the same currency
( Euro for me )but limits you to receivin no more then 400 euro

To celebrate the fact they now have a flemish version they offered me a 5 euro discount on my first purchase with paypal
Since euro banktranspers from any eurocountry to any eurocountry cost no more then an inland transfer ( 0.5 euro in my case )I had no use for paypal sofar
Also paying in pounds or dollars paypal wants handling fees for both buyer and vendor like 2.5% handling for each and the exchange rate itself costs me as buyer like another 3%
So a Euro transfer to UK pounds gets them like 8% total

I bought a second hand book Song of Susannah in the UK with my 5 euro
