Why does it seem like all the s mints in my linoln cent folder are harder find? Are they minted less and collected more?

All S mint after 1974 are proof only. '68-S to '74-S come as uncs and proofs. Pre-1956 S mints are uncs. There are such things as PL uncs so nothing is simple. Only the uncs were placed in circulation and generally San Francisco mintages are much lower than other mints.

San Francisco also minted all the SMS cents from '65 to '67 but without a mintmark. They minted coins for circulation these years as well but without a mint mark. They even made cents after 1974 for circulation but without a mintmark.

In 1974 the last year of S mint cents most of the coins were shipped to Denver and mixed with their coins to make it harder for hoarders to get solid rolls. This is one of the reasons the '74-S sm date is tough to find.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

1968S-1974S Memorial Lincolns were minted primarily as business strikes and had much smaller proof mintages as well. The S mint business strikes still had considerably smaller mintages than their Philly and Denver cousins.

With the 's' mints from 1968 to 1974, they were collected (or hoarded) more - as you state. If reality were our guide, they are no more valuable than their 'P' and 'D' brothers and sisters.

However, we're talking San Franscisco - so reality is not a factor. The 's' minted coins from that era will always be harder to find.
