A friend asked me to help id a silver coin about the size of a dime. I only have a paper picture so can't upload an image. It has this on the reverse: a crown and these letters? Hard to read: FRET NAV RE
EDICT V M 1659 SIT NOME.DOMINI
The obverse has the image of a young child facing right with these letters LVD XIIII

I am thinking it is British or possible French. If I had a site that showed all the coins with these type inscriptions I am sure I could pick it out. Any suggestions out there. Some of you are coin gurus.

If it is like the above then its a French 1/12 ecu minted under Louis 14th, here is a link with a few similar coins:

Here is the same coin and date for sale on a German site:

Although I think the 200 euros they want for it is a bit high! - its prob worth half that at best.

If you look after the letters 'LVDXIIII D G' you may be able to see the mint mark on the coin and work out exactly where it came from. The mint marks are symbols like stars (in above picture), lions/dogs, crescents, flowers and towers.
