Well, I finally sprung for an inexpensive used copy stand on ebay & won the auction a few hours ago. $44 & $15 shipping. Testrite Photography Copy Stand - CS-1 Anyone own one of these? Opinions?

You did good for $60 I was looking for a used one a few years ago and it seemed like the nice ones(read: not held together with duct tape ) always closed at $75-90 shipped.

I use a CS-3 I finally found on ebay after three years of looking. It was...a little more than $44. Should be a solid and capable unit.

I just checked ebay and Amazon for a copy stand like this and neither had them. Any suggestions as to where to find one?

Quote: Any suggestions as to where to find one? They're not in production any more, so finding one is as much a matter of luck as anything else.

For a few weeks, I was looking at the one you linked to. Keep in mind, that it does not come with the lights setup, whereas the better copy stands do. If you supply your own lights setup, the one you linked to looks very good.

Why would you want to be limited to the lighting the copystand provides?

Portability & compactness.

Portability? They can't leave the copystand - they're attached.
Compactness? Measure the shades. My lights are less than 2" wide total, and go wherever I want them, across the room if necessary.
I'm not necessarily saying they're a poor solution. They just don't represent either portability or compactness, by comparison to other lighting. There's a reason I used the term "limited."

It seems to me that it's a lot easier to pull the copy stand with built-in lights from the box, plug it in, pop the camera on, adjust height & settings on the camera & you're good to go. Too dark or too light? Change bulbs or adjust camera settings. I don't have a "dedicated area" set up for pics, so I grab a space wherever I can. Much faster setup & take down. That being said, I am only collecting for about 3 years & I'm a complete newbie with pics. So for the final word, I defer to SuperDave & other experts like him. He has probably forgotten more than I know. I hope my pics are a fraction as good as his are.
