Poll Question
I have been working on collecting BU Morgan's, have maybe 30 at most and realize I will never get a full BU set unless I win the Power Lotto Mega lottery or something similiar. I think I would/could put together a complete BU set of Buffalo nickels however. Will leave whatever it is to grandson so I am wondering what would hold the best future value? Morgans or Buffalos, want to see how the vote goes and that will persuade my collecting habits.- This would be one coin per date/mm not just amassing a pile of BU's of any particular date/mm

The Morgans are going to have the most value. Silver dollars are always going to be in more demand than nickels. Except for the key days and CC mint Morgans, putting together a BU collection isn't all that expensive. You may just want to put together a date set in BU condition.

yes, but wasn't there a flood of Morgan's into circulation not long ago which caused demand to lower significantly? I love Morgans and own several, but I thought I heard of something like this happening not too long ago. I could be wrong.

I have to agree with echizento. Morgans, and other dollar coins from the mint, will continue to appreciate in value as years go by, more so than Buffalo nickels; except the Ikes right now, but maybe in another 30 or 40 years they may come up in value. |

The government coffers are gone, though. In any event it's likely that fewer Morgans survive, as a percentage of original mintage, of any US coin. The majority were melted due to the Pittman Act. |

Thanxz for all the input, guess I will keep with the Morgans for now, though I think there will be quite a few unattainable South of $500 in BU state. Right now I am limiting myself to $200 per coin, but most at less than $40, even down into the low $20's for the more common ones.
I still like the Buffalo's though, maybe someday.....
my other thoughts were the Quarter Eagle Indians in BU, seems like many can be picked up for between $3-500

BU Nickels are far tougher to come by. For every BU Buffalo I ever get, I prolly have 50BU Morgans come through. Indian cents are even tougher. Having said that, the demand for Morgans is much greater and probably will remain that way. People like the silver dollars. There are very few Morgans I feel are underpriced based on availability... but the demand is the big factor. I do like the $2 1/2 Golds. Highest Mintage is 722,000, most in the 400-500k range. That is a nice looking completed set. |

Tough call. A lot of people collect Morgans (I have about a dozen BU Morgans). There are also a lot more Morgans out there. Buffalos are popular also. Part of the attraction of Morgans is their silver content. Even if you decide you aren't that into them, they have intrinsic value with the silver content. It's a great way to build a cushion of silver in case the whole fiat money system comes crashing down. Buffalos are nice, but no silver....
