The same place I bought the franklins. One dealer had a "novelty" penny. I looked at it. A 1943 stell penny copper coated for $3.00. He told me what it was and I said If it were real I have a feeling it wouldn't be here. I explained that some people may tru to take that out of the 2x2 and try to sell it as genuine. He just looked at me funny. Maybe someday it will end up in that vast "bank box in Savannah"(I hope not). On another note. As I was passing yet a 3rd "dealer". He saw me with the franklins I just purchased. (I was looking at some of his stuff and had them in my hand). He said "You know those aren't silver"?. I played dumb and said, Really..He said yeah there just clad w/copper but if you want I'll "give" you $1.00 ea. I quickly put down what I was looking at, Thank him and left, shaking my head all the way.
Grovey, you should have had some fun and said "I know that, everyone knows these are really silver plated gold coins. I'm not stupid you know"! I wonder what kind of reaction that would have got you!Just pokin' fun Mike
Next time you are passing by this dealer, offer to buy all his non silver dated prior to 1964. Offer twice face value for it. If he can buy for it for twice he should be able to sell it for close to that.
