DARN and I was really hoping you'ld just give up this silly hobby and send whatever you now have to me.

Always remember that a hobby is SUPPOSED to be mostly fun and a pass time. Never, ever let the few that get carried away with excessive details scare you off. Those are the few that usually have far to little to do except getting carried away with everything.
Ever watch a bunch of people at a bowling alley? Even there you can see the ones that have lost the ability to enjoy themselves with a game. Ever hear of all those Socker Mom horror stories of women going overboard with almost any thing short of murder.
Way to many take everything way to serious. Just have fun with this hobby. If you get a chance, try a few coin shows. usually a real lot of normal people there.
And as to Martial Arts. I spent many, many years with Karate. Never made it past a Brown Belt due to promotions were always on a Friday Night and there are way, really way, to many more fun things to do around a big city than fight someone for a belt. A few times on a Friday I tried but after a few hours in a bar, enough trouble standing let alone fighting.
