Could someone suggest a way of getting this black stuff off of this silver coin. I have soaked it in acetone with no results. What about white vinegar?Would that damage the coin?

Halfwitty- Since that coin has already been harshly cleaned I would suggest just leaving that on there. It really doesn't look that bad, and it may be creating some contrast that preserved some of the detail.

Your call Halfwitty. Vinegar is acidic and will etch the metal in higher concentrations. It may not be noticeable noting the condition of the coin.

p.s. - I personally don't find the discoloration that distracting. kind of gives it character that a pure white coin in AG wouldn't have.

I'd leave it alone also, it's not going to effect the value of this coin.
