Sure he can be polished away. The Lincoln statute is engraved very shallowly into the highest part of the reverse die. And the floating roof also tends to indicate that the die was overly polished as well.

Yeah, Conder, I had second thoughts about what I said...but decided to eat my words rather than take them back.

But does die wear (from striking) also help the disappearing act?
