When my mom was a kid, her dad gave her a couple $2 bills for her coin collection. She remembered that, and, a few years back, gave my brother and I some new $2 bills she picked up at the bank. Mine had been sitting in my coin box since then, but when I found her bills and put them with mine, I noticed something fun! Hers are 1953, mine are 2003. Fifty years apart, and both are still crisp.

Fun-$2-53-03

I doubt they're worth anything more than face, but still- it was a fun find. Does anyone know why the red one is printed such?

And...yours are sequentially numbered AND Star Notes. I'm not into bills much, but I think it's pretty neat.

Yeah, Schmidty, I had not noticed that about them until I pulled them out of the box three days ago. Man, I'm glad I never spent these when I got them!

The red one is a united states note while the others is a federal reserve note. The major difference is that the USN were printed under the authority of the government while the FRN were printed under the authority of the federal reserve banks. There could only be a certain dollar amount of USN in circulation, but I can't remember the amount while the FRNs have no restrictions in mintage. You could probably google United States Notes to find out more.

I'm not much into currency but it would seem to me that the 2 sequential notes being stars and low numbers would carry a premium would they not?

I'm not sure, but I think series 2003 star notes are the rarest of all the $2 Federal Reserve Notes...
Nice!

Really? That would be fun! Since this collection is 90% pocket change, I had doubted I'd find anything particularly rare!
