Read an interesting article with a movement to replace President U.S. Grant with President Ronald Reagan on the $50 bill. That ought to add a new firestorm, heh?

Was this online? If so, do you have a link you can share? I would much rather see Liberty on all of our coinage and Federal Reserve Notes (and I would think that Reagan would agree with me), but I would not complain if this change took place.

Grant isn't the first choice for me of current dead Presidents to replace, but Reagan is on the short list of those who I'd accept on currency.
Like many though - I'd rather see a return to Seated, Standing, etc., type Liberty & sheild coinage.
Save the Presidents for commemorative issues or 1 year runs such as 100th anniversary of a sig event.

I read about this in our local daily Rag yesterday, I think it is a Polotician from SC that is pushing this. I would love to see it. I liked Regan When I was growing up and love the idea of him being honored like this.

I would rather see a return to the old style of notes, like the old $10 with a buffalo on it, or the one with the school kids. Less politicization of our $.

What a joke! Regan was only helpful to the rich. He is the reason most small towns across the midwest are dead. He is the reason why our money is worth less. Why would we want to honor him? We should make Regan toilet paper, not Regan money.

I, too, would like to see no Presidents on our currency. But, if we are going to keep doing it, then Reagan should get serious consideration. And to Paul: Get real.

paul, I don't know what you are talking about but in my opinion Regan was one of the last greats we ever had running this country. We sure haven't had anyone with the morals or the brains to do the job since. I am not going to get in any political debates as I said this is just my opinion but each president of the United States should have our respect and the toilet paper comment is pretty disrespectful if you ask me. Even the President we have now should have our respect even though I do not feel to safe in any way (economic or personal) with him in the seat he holds but the majority of the voters put him there and we are stuck with him and you will never see me disrespect him in the way you have done above

Whichever way it goes, it's time for a change. I too would love to see a return to the designs of yesterday. Save the dead presidents for commems. As soon as I hear that the change is imminent, I'm getting a bunch and looking for uncircs.

I'd rather see polk or mckinley on our currency. Perhaps taking lincoln off the five and washington off of the quarter since they already have two currencies each lol.
I also think they should start circulating the 500's again. It's pretty annoying as a bank teller when you have to count out 10,000 in hundreds, and it would allow us to reclaim some of our clout as a reserve currency in competition to the 500 euro note.

Dead leaders for commemoratives only.
With respect to the U.S. I believe that idolatry on U.S. tender is pretentious, pompous, and even dangerous for a democratic republic; Government is supposed to be "of the people, by the people, for the people" -- not a medium to subjectively deify politicians.
Reagan is proffered, yet could we actually imagine a "Carter Quarter", a "Hoover Half", or a "Nixon Nickel?" No - as it should be, and neither should it be for historically-subjective "rock stars" like Reagan, Roosevelt, et al.
I'm all for the return of symbolism for regular issues.

Xavier 500 Euro Notes are great. I carried two around during my trip in Spain and it was so much more convenient. There are two problems with the Euros though: they are all different sizes and are a pain to find a large enough wallet and losing a 500 Euro is a lot bigger than a $100 bill.
