I purchased a grading book today and I still have some questions. I have a lot of new pennys that are really nice and have not been in circulation for very long. The wear is very little to almost none but there are a few light nicks on the surfaces. Any wisdom on how to grade these?

Many lightly circulated cents from 2008 & 2009 will still grade MS. Minor nicks and rubs will bring them down to low MS, usually around 62 or 63.

One of the things that confused me when I was first starting out is that I thought a coin from circulation couldn't be "uncirculated" so even my nicest coins got an AU grade at best by me unless they were in an uncirculated or proof set. Only later did I realize uncirculated coins can have some minor wear on them and still be uncirculated. Of course the price range between MS-60 and MS-70 can be greater than G-4 to AU-55, so all uncirculated coins are not created equal!
