Teacher needs ASAP a picture or poster to teach the designs on a coin, both obverse and reverse. Can be most any American coin, dime, quarter, half... Does anybody have such? It needs to be large enough to be seen from the back of a small auditorium.

If you can't find any, the USMint site provides some hi-res pictures. Perhaps you can hook your computer up to a projector.

Check Wikipedia.
Here is an example:

Massive.

Just go to each coins page and you should find similar pics or every coin.

Thank you for the site. I don't know if I can get a projector, so was hoping to make a poster. It needs to be large.

Check with SuperDave his raw images would print on a 22x36 inch sheet without any loss of detail. Kinkos would be able to do the printing

Please pardon my lack of expertise, but how do you email somebody through the forum?

nancyk, Have you tried one of those teacher supply stores? I have seen something like that there, I think.

Or you can just click on the poster's name in their identification block and it takes you to his/her page. There is a section there that says "Email user: Click to send an E-Mail".

Click it and there you go!
That works too! Good luck!

Or you could wait until I see this thread.

Nancyk, let me go through my images to see what I can find which will be the most appropriate for your project. I will then email you with those images attached (I can use my Moderator Superpowers to find your registration email ) and we'll see if they're appropriate.

I'm thinking I like one or the other of my favorite Cent shots for your purpose:

Being rather darker to begin with, they're less-likely to "wash out" if printed in large format than my Morgan shots, which tend to be pretty bright.

Thanks. I need a coin with lots of details to show: legend, banner, dentricles, designer, etc. for basic terminology. It is going to be used over and over.

Hmm. Can I have a day or two to think? The shots I proposed don't show either reeding or the designer's initials, which don't appear on all coins anyways. A Morgan dollar would serve those features better. Let me see if I have a Morgan set which would work for you.

Here's another possibility for you, Nancy:

Coin-Poster-Large-Needed

Coin-Poster-Large-Needed

This one would also allow the instructor to discuss die cracks and variety collecting - it's a fairly well-known variety.

I'm going to go ahead and send you a few emails, each with the obverse and reverse of a coin attached. I don't know what size attachments your email address will hold, and the originals of these average about 4MB apiece.

Although these images are my work, it is widely held by learned legal minds and supported by court decisions that images of circulating coins are not copyrightable. Therefore, although I freely give you my permission to use these images, you don't really have to care what I think.
