I found the pictured coin in my grandfather's collection and would like to know whether anyone can identify it . The characters look greek but I only tend to handle 19th century european and Indian coinage hence have no idea what it is . The diameter is 17 mm .

Deffinitely not a Greek coin, I think it's a Constantin II falling horse 'FEL TEMP REPARATIO'-restoring good times.
Have a look here: http://dougsmith.ancients.info/ftr.html
Or wait for an expert who can help you more, because I don't really know much about these coins.

...and in case it's not clear from what the others said... it's a "Late Roman Bronze".

Unfortunately the mintmark, normally locate din the reverse exergue below the two soldiers, is off the flan on your coin.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
