Reading through some of these post I see a lot of controversy as far as storage of coins, in terms of preservation.

Are the old whitman classic albums, with the sliders, safe for storing coins outside of the problem with moving the sliders, which I will avoid doing?

I think all of the albums are pretty safe. I have never used Whitman myself but I do like the way they have a cut out to grab hold of the slide to pull it out like the intercept albums

The Whitman's are pretty nice. I just don't think they're as nice as the Dansco. I bought a "used" set of Jeffersons from my dealer many years ago that was in two old Whitman's, 38-64 and 65-date (which was like 1970 something!). Not a complete set, but at the time it was the beginning of a Jefferson set for me. I still have those albums, and they still have some coins in them! I have a few Intercept Shield albums as well, for my Lincolns, Washingtons, and Morgans. I like those the best, and I like that they came with slipcases. Then Dansco started making slipcases for their albums. I should get some of those! From what Bryan says Whitman has them now also.

I was not referring to slip cases, I was referring to the slides that is in front of and behind the coin (clear plastic slides). the Whitman and the intercept albums has a cut out on the album pages that dansco doesn't have so you can grab a hold of the plastic slides to remove them to insert the coins. Here is a picture of what I was talking about (inside the yellow circles)

Aah, I knew what you were referring to, but when I read Bryan's post my brain was in "slipcase mode".

But yeah, that's one of the reasons I like the IS albums. I like Danscos, but you have to push start the sliding windows before you can pull them out. Life could be worse, I guess.

I actually modified my Dansco album to be like these because I didn't like pushing them out, I would rather pull them

That's a great idea, and probably not real difficult! How did you carve yours out?

Looks like he laid a coin, quarter size or a half dollar, half on the edge of the page, and traced a half circle onto the page, then maybe used a modeler's knife to carefully cut it out.

My Intercept Shield Type Album doesn't have notches, kind of annoying.

thats exactly what I did. Don't really remember what denomination I used but thats how I did it. Then I just cut masking tape in crescent shape the same size and placed it on the slides so I would have something textured to hold onto

I thought all Interceptshield albums had this feature. I dont have any to compare but all the pictures I have seen were this way. That was the one thing I didn't really like about the Dansco albums and that is why I modified mine

I've seen a bunch without the notches, there are pics on the main site. I just wanted something different than the 7070, which everyone and their mother seems to have these days. I'm surprised more people don't get the IS, I love it despite the missing notches.
