1979 Filled D Lincoln

Just finished searching two boxes of Lincolns; found nothing spectacular, actually two of the worst boxes ever. Anyway, found this 1979D. Clearly the D is filled; is this very common, very uncommon, etc? What might have caused this? I am not very knowledgeble of the Lincolns.
