I'm no pro, but... on the copper, there should be a loss of detail opposite the clip if it's pre-mint damage.

for the 5 cent, acid dipped. for the 1 cent, probably not.

I'll second speck's take on the cent.
The 5 cent - I'll say about 4 months in a sandy pocket.

the 5 cent has been abraided, the cent has been cut man made both. IMO
