I found this coin while going through a bank bag of pennies, and I noticed some bubble like bumps around the date. What could this be?

Hi Madhandles

Very Interesting !! Like Jim said the bubbles could be trapped gas between the copper and the zinc, or trapped contaminates dust or metal particles.

Can you depress the bubbles ? use a tooth pick and see if you can press them down, if it gas you will be able to if it is particles of dust or other contaminate they may be ridgid.

I've also seen those bubbles/little blobs on pennies and I've always been curious about that. They can't be popped with a toothpick or anything. It's solid. Like someone just mentioned, looks like the braille dots.

Yes, they are solid, and I cannot depress them. Any ideas? Coppercoins?

I have a few coins this way, and in two the bubles only occur along die cracks, so I thought they where chips or something. I also noticed that 2005 cents often have a large buble between the second and third collums, so I think it could be some type of die break.

Yup, I find a lot of weird errors from the bank bags. But then again, I am sorting through thousands of pennies. ;)
