Thanks for your site.

I have coins from when I was younger, I recently got them out for my son to use working on his Boy Scout merit badge in Coin Collecting.

I have a set of coins from the year I was born, 1961, they are in plastic tubes and are un-circulated but I do not know which grade they would be. I know my father got them Un-circulated in 1961 and they have been sealed in the tubes since.

I have a full roll of Pennies, Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, and Half Dollars. I know that the Dimes, Quarters and Half Dollars are Silver.

Any guesses as to the grade they would be?

Any idea of values?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You.

Hi jwburns38829

Welcome to the forum !!

Were the coins in rolls when your Father got them ?

each coin will have its own grade, they is no real constant for rolled coins,, However if all are unc coins then they will not be less than MS-60 but the top cannot be known without examining each coin.

your welcome to post pics of some of the coins and get some opinions on grade.

we are a family friendly forum, and if you see fit your son is welcome to participate also.

First of all I want to welcome you to the forum. In order to give a grade on the coins we would need to see a picture of each coin in question. Just them being uncirculated isn't enough information to give a accurate grade even though it is good enough to tell you they will be atleast a MS (mint state) grade. I am no good at grading but there are many members here that are pretty good at doing so by pictures, so if you could take some pictures, as close as possible of each coin in question I am sure they would be more than happy to help you and give you a accurate grade for the coins

I have never opened the tubes, I did not want to handle the coins and mess them up. They are in clear plastic tubes with screw on lids and are sealed with tape. Looking thru the tubes all appear shiny and unmarked.

I may open them one day and take pictures, I assume I should wear gloves when handling the coins.

Your absolutely right care should be taken when handling the coins, the plastic tubes leads me to think that the coins were loose when aquired,, or that they were removed from the original paper rolls that the banks would have used,,

The Franklin half dollars are a good collectable coin , although 1961 examples are not rare, very high grade example can have significant value, this is true also for the dimes and quarters,, full step nickels of that date are scarce and do have a good value ,, the cents are very common but are still valued above face and in very high grade carry a good value.

We will be here when you get to photo the coins, I will be watching for the pics.
