The metal is raised above the surface where the cone shaped holes are. Holes do not go all the way through...Read a post about gas bubbles but this looks different.. Ideas..

Looks like post mint damage, high powered dart, really mean snake bite.......something punctured it. Maybe placed in a vice and punctured intentionally?

That's not an error, everyone knows beavers have entrances and exits in their lodges..

Seriously, that's interesting but I have no idea what could cause that in a nickel. Maybe particulate trapped in the coin that blew out those little volcano lips when someone heated the coin? (pure guess)

Wasn't sure myself..Bought this and a few other coins from my neighbor today (He's been out of work for a while due to mill shut downs) Paid a dollar for it so its worth the gamble.....
