This coin was dug up in my back yard by my great grandfather over 50 years ago.. It was found alongside of two large American cents dated 1795 and 1797. I believe this to be a British coin. It is very worn down and the only visible mark left on the coin is a shield with three points on the top. I believe this coin is made of copper but I am not sure. Any help is appreciated!

Welcome to the CC forum usawilson.

Hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Would help if we could have a picture of both sides of the coin (and only the coin) as this would help in the identification.

I think the only shield that we had that was not flat topped was the commonwealth 1649-1660 but that was only in gold and silver hammered. Could be a eighteenth/nineteenth century token but would need a clearer picture and both sides. For some reason I think it looks french.
