You meant the "butterfly effect". But another way to look at it would be this:

You always went back in time and did what ever you did in the past so therefore you can travel back into the past and do what ever you want.

The only time a paradoxical effect would take place is if you intentionally did something that affected you personally. IE killing your grandfather before your father was born.

Conversely you also would not be able to go back and change a specific item in your life, because if that action was the only reason you traveled back then you would have no reason to go back. Moreover you can then draw the conclusion that if you do have access to a time machine then what ever happened in your past was the direct result of actions you take in the future.

You really have to love theoretical temporal physics.

Also from a historian's point of view if you went back and killed Hitler in 1938 before the Germans invaded Poland. Hitler would go down in history as one of the greatest world leaders of all time.

(Not going to take the time to point out a lot of the good things he did before the invasion, and his subsequent actions, because I don't want to hijack the thread. However if anyone is curious then PM me..)

Yeah, for one he saved the entire Germany from going down as a sub third world country (I know "third-world country" is used anachronistically but just to make a point).

haha I wouldn't even have to go back that far. Just take me back to the year 2000, when Apple was $8 a pop. That'll give me enough money now *hypothetically* to buy almost any coin I would like!

Yes, you (or anyone else with a time machine) could go back and change things, big or small. The result would be the world as we know it now. We would not be aware of any previous alternative history (barring parallel universes which opens up another whole different can of worms).
Even as we communicate now someone might go back there and alter everythi...............qaStaH nuq? jIyajbe' nuqDaq 'oH puchpa''e'

Could we not discuss the effects of time travel and get back on coins? Seems that I could have philosophical discussions on other preferred forums.

wd: I'm not sure buying stock qualifies as currency/money.. We'll let that slide.. I guess if we wanted to abuse cryogenics instead of time travel, do what the Egyptians did, sleep in eternity with your most valued items!
