I have what looks like a 1828 1/4 real from Jalisco Mexico. What I am having trouble with is it's KM# and finding out how many where minted.

Value?

Anyone? Ok, I know...photos...so, here ya go!

It's either an octavo (1/8 real) KM# 329, or quarto (KM# 353). Mintages not reported in Krause.

Assuming that the pics in Krause are the correct size (and ever since Krause went digital, this assumption has been proved wrong on numerous occasions) then your coin is an octavo.

It's KM#329 1/8th real aka octavo real or DB420. According to Don Bailey's State and Federal Copper & Brass Coinage of Mexico, good is about $5. This is the common date with the possibility of being the one with the highest (unrecorded) mintage of this coin.

Curious as to how you acquired this coin.

fcrazo, that's good info...I'd be interested in reading more from that book. Is it still in print?

I picked up this particular coin from a street vendor that is a pretty good source for old coins. (he actively uses a metal detector in the mountains with regular success) You might have noticed in my profile that I'm in Mexico.

Do you collect Mexican?
