Can't tell from the pic ( at least I can't). Have you tried verifying the markers for this coin?

I was looking at coppercoins for the variety. Where will I find info on the markers to look for for the coin?

At coppercoins, look up 1983D, and they will list various scratches, chips, gouges, etc. If you can find those markers on your coin, you can be reasonably sure it is an RPM.

Thank you. I found the page. From the list of markers I will conclude that it is not a 1983D-1MM-002. One marker is "A die dot shows just above and between the 8 and 3 of the date." This marker is not on my coin. Also...die wear patterns are shown as markers. My coin has similar scratches as pictured on coppercoins but, It states "Die wear patterns are shown in other areas due to lack of other meaningful markers." One other marker listed is "A very small and thin die crack runs from the tip of the left base to the rim." on the reverse. My coin does not have this marker either.
Back to the pile-o-coins.
Thanks for the info Scooby.

Try to get a better pic for the pros. It looks to be just MD, but just because it is not 1MM-002, doesn't mean it's not another RPM.

I put it back in to its baggie. I will try for a better pic tonight. Going to look for my tripod. Will see if that helps with clearing the pics up. Looking at buying a USB microscope in the near future. Will make things a lot easier.

Hard to tell from the image. About all I can see is that it is a 1983-D Cent. On this variety (-002) it is a tilted listing. That means the serifs (On the NW/SW corners of the mint mark has a notch in them from the die being struck at different angles and not in the same exact location. So the area to compare is the serifs to see if they have these exact notching on the corners of the mint mark. Location of the mint mark is also crutial. If the location of the mint mark is different, your coin is from a different die. So a closer view is needed to tell if it a match or not. Markers: The may or may not be on all coins struck from a die. The EDS examples will not have the die flow, die cracks, chips, die breaks, Retained Cuds, Cuds that a MDS, LDS or VLDS coin would have. Clashes, cleanings/scratches will change a die for a time and then flatten out. So thinking a coin is a certain variety or not by markers is a incorrect idea. Just as when we get old we get wrinkles, we didn't have them as child. As we age by events that happen to us, dies do also. Hope this helps.

Thank you Coop for the info. Here is a much better pic of the coin as well as a pic of the full coin. I hope these are adequate. Thanks again, cladhunter13
