I need to know whats up with the date on this Morgan. The last 0 in 1880 is deformed in some way. Is this just a bad date strike or 1879 over 1880? Sorry for the bad pictures. I tried to blow up the date from the picture provided. Image: 1880.jpg33.8 KB Image: 4a_1_b.jpg7.81 KB

May just be a bad strike. I am unsure about this.

are there ant lines inside the "0"? I have to say I have never seen anything quite like that before so I really dont have a clue what could cause that, maybe someone else like SuperDave or MorganFred or even Metalman may know what would causes something like that (they have been collecting longer than me and have seen alot more than I could ever wish to see) I will definately keep watching this thread to see what they say about it

Bryan, I don't know if there are lines inside the "O" this is the only picture I have. I cannot see any lines in or around the 80 at all. I have never see anything like it either,so I thought I would post it here and see what others thought.I emailed the seller and asked him about it,no reply as of yet. Terry

Hi Terry
I tried to enhance the photo but with little luck,, But from what I could make out, it almost looks like the 0 was hit by another coin and the left side of the loop was distorted,,
My opinion is that is not a strike anomoly but post mint damage of some sort.
Rick

You could be right Rick, I sure cannot see any place near the date that shows blunt trama. Hopefully the seller will answer the question. Thanks,Terry Image: 1880.jpg31.02 KB

Hello all;
My mother is liquidating my fathers coin collection and I was wondering how much is a fair price and when to walk away? The collection consisted of 400 plus bux in Morgans (face value). 15 Morgan GSA CC dollars. The Morgans are between AU and MS63.
Regarding the gold coins, my father has a incapsulated 12 piece set, all in MS plus condition. They range from the 1,2,3 ONE DOLLAR type to the 20 buck Saint Guadian.
Anyhow, this is a small idea of what she wants to do. A dealer offered 20,000 for the lot.

Andrew, I suggest, you post some of the coins, mintmarks and dates since some in AU could be worth $100,000 each. So I suggest you post dates here on the forum or you can buy a RedBook which tells all the prices. Some coins WILL be worth over 10 Grande. Thanks! TKC!
