Here's a question for you coin sellers and shippers. I've been shipping coins in the US using the small flat rate USPS box, which costs $4.85 including delivery confirmation. What would be my best option for shipping to Canada? Is there an equivalent service that will confirm delivery, without costing an arm and a leg?

Also, is there a problem with duty or taxes for coins going from the US to Canada?

I'd appreciate advice from experienced sellers. Thanks!

USPS has a flat rate international shipping box, but you can't get DC on those. The only way I know to track foreign shipments is to use UPS or Fedex, but they will be expensive from my experiences.

These are the reasons I avoid shipping out of the US anymore.

You can get signature on flat rate international boxes to Canada, just not as cheaply as you can ship to the US. A quite large flat rate box to Canada with signature is about 25-30 bucks. Smaller boxes are less. The two post offices are actually capable of tracking each others packages on their respective web sites using the same tracking numbers. In the case of Paypal/Ebay, if the parcel is under their risk value (I think it's 100 bucks) you can just get delivery confirmation and that's adequate paypal proof. Over that you get a sig.

I've been on both sides of the border and shipped all kinds of stuff both ways. The computer integration between the two post offices makes it probably the easiest international shipping to do in my opinion.

The risk value is $250, above that you need signatures.

On the USPS website they show that a "large envelope" can be shipped to Canada via International First Class mail and with "certificate of mailing" the total cost is just $4.00. That would be for an envelope weighing 8 ounces. For a weight of 1 pound that cost jumps to $11.26.

Has anyone used this service for Canada shipping?
