OK then, I would vote if I knew the question. I went ahead and voted for my age group anyway. I will be 49 in a few more weeks

I just barely made it into the 5th group at 29. Are you really "10-14" wheatguy? you sound older in your posts, but I can never tell anything on the internet..

I voted for 45-49 because I really feel that the masses of numismatists often are younger people, say8-15, and middle-aged and older people, about 45+ . It just really seems that often people are exposed when young, but lose interest or become distracted when in high school. When older one often has the patience, money, and attention span to dive into the world of numismatics, be it a revival or the acquisition of a new hobby.
I must admit that even I lost interest from about the ages of 16-17, but I have been going strong ever since.

22 here. I started when I was 6 or seven when I found a Wheat penny and showed it to grandma...only to have her show me a tin full of wheats my grandfather (who had just died) had been picking from circulation over the years. The tin is still on my desk, though now it holds silver quarters/dimes that I've plucked from circulation

31 here. I've been collecting my whole life. I get it from my parents and grandparents. They used to take my birthday and Christmas money and buy junk silver or silver dollars for me. It planted the bug in me and then I actively bought silver whenever I could. By the time I turned 18, I had a large collection and I was able to use it to make a down payment on my house when I was 19. I was sure grateful my parents did this otherwise I probably would not have been able to purchase my house at that age.
I am now married with three kids and we do the very same thing for my kids. They always roll their eyes when they get a silver dollar for Christmas, but someday their little stash will really come in handy for them.

I'm in my 30s now but I started when I was 12 or 13. There was a local coin club I joined so there were a bunch of guys that had been in the hobby forever that were thrilled to have a young kid interested in the hobby and learning from them and getting to see some really cool coins each month got me hooked.
By the way, your poll will give you the average age of someone on this forum. It is probably biased towards the younger end though as the older you are the less likely you are regularly visiting an internet forum. That's not to say that older people aren't here or can't use the internet! Just that a 80 year old is much less likely to do so than a 20 year old.

I am 28 and I have just started in the past few days. Although, I have yet to make my first coin purchase. I guess that would make me a virgin in this area!

One person actually put 75+ don't see myself collecting at that age even though I'm pretty sure I still will.
