Just got this one in today and am hopefully optimistic that it will be up there with at least a 60+. It's a really nice coin from a high end collector who recently passed on and his wife is dribbling them out for bid. I come up with MS-62/63. Thoughts? Paleoguy

The good news ... I would say MS62 from the photos.

The bad news ... 1880-O coins are notorious for owner improvements. Because they jump in value between AU and UNC, previous owners try to make minor improvements to correct flaws or enhance eye appeal. The average collector doesn't see these enhancements, but the experts do and will not assign a grade. Case in point I picked up a rare VAM 49 about a year and a half ago which I still believe to be at least MS62 and possibly MS63. PCGS sent it back "altered surface" without a grade. I look at it regularly trying to see where it was altered and a year later I still don't see it. If it could find it's way into a PCGS MS62 or 63 slab, it would be moon money!

I looked at your link and that is a beautiful coin. There wasn't a closeup of the eagle talons but they did look flattened. A wise old man once told me the knuckles on the talons are the first thing to go on a circulated Morgan. The knuckles on my coin are max knucklicious. Give me hope!! LOL

This is a nice strike for a New Orleans mint coin, there is just a little weakness in the hair and breast feathers. I think MS-62 is a good grade for this coin.

I'd go 63 on this one.
