I'm looking at the upper right top of the memorial and the RCA of AMERICA. There is an extra ridge at the top of the memorial, is this normal for a '65? Or is there something else going on here? Also, there looks like notching in the "R" and lower parts of C and A. The bottom right leg of the "R" is also exaggerated. Edited by Scooby Due 04/10/2010 12:42 am

I'm no pro but I am guessing some kind of ejection doubling. Let's wait for a pro to answer. John1

The folding effect you see on the letters is caused by striking over pressure - has nothing to do with being a doubled die. Another thing to note about notching is that it will appear more so on the outer extremeties of the letters than the inner parts...like spokes on a wheel are farther apart the closer to the edge of the wheel you get.
BTW, to Cladhunter...this is a 1965 cent. There are no mintmarks on 1965-1967 cents.

Thanks Charles (or Chuck? which do you prefer?), always great to hear from a mega-pro (as well as a fellow USAF vet).

Thank you coppercoins. I learn something new every day. Living in Canada...I have limited access to US cents. Just what is in my bank box rolls. Still learning as I go and enjoying every minute of it.

I had not noted that particular anomily, before, and thanks to Chuck's chiming in, we all learned a bit more. It is nice to see so many "zoomies", "flying" around. We tend to stick together, even if the branch of service is not the same. Btw, I was in the Navy Squadreon that was "attached" to the USAF, VC-3. It was odd, having Generals tell us what, when, and where, instead of Admirals. Dick, USN Retired, 1 May 1963.
