What Happened To The Tail On This 1972 LMC?

Still looking through my "examine more closely" pile. I came upon this 1972 LMC. What happened to the tail on the 2? There is a faint area to the right where it should be. Odd thing is that the upper and lower corner of the tip are flare out like it would be on a normal 2.
