Hello and thanks in advance for any help I may receive. What I have is a 1968 D cent that to me looked like someone took it to metel shop and had some fun with it. After looking at it closer - I noticed that on the reverse - it looks like a die break. (left upper corner - 9:00 - 11:00) The main thing I see is there still is very light lettering where I think the die break was and am not sure if that is possible. I am not to excited about this pocket find but would like to hear from you guys to see if it could be an error. Also, the coin is not round. Thanks again, Brent

I had the same thought regarding the Cud reverse. I have a feeling that it probably isn't, though.

A die break/crack is not an error (can't see if there is one on this coin). The rest of of what is going on with that coin looks like post mint damage to me.

Don't know why my text didn't come up but oh well. I must be slow today because a die break would have raised the metal up not smash it down (wouldn't it?) Anyways, I appreciate the input and hope to get more. Thanks, Brent

Yes, you'd expect a Cud to be raised, not depressed.

Wow, that guy's had a rough go! A love this site! You see something new everyday!

I'm not experienced enough to comment on the cause of damage, but I have a question regarding the reverse - Does the "break" go up and around the A in states? Or is that just an illusion looking like part of the A?

Thanks all - I wasn't expecting this fast of a response. Scooby - it looks like (under 10x loop) to be a jagged part of the edge and it just so happened to be right next to the A. Not sure, that is why I am here. More pictures to try and help out - I am getting better at the pictures. Brent

You're doing very nicely with those pics, Brent. What sort of equipment are you using?
