I'm thinking silver is not a short term item at the moment. There's a lot more supply than demand and now that film is all but out of the picture I can't really see any new industrial need popping up to replace it. I mean people are buying and the price is OK but I'd rather hold silver in non bullion forms personally. If the auto sector ever ramps up again then platinum family bullion will pick up but I'll leave to the market.

LOL - I think there is a difference in Silver Coin outlook and Silver Bullion outlook. Coins will always have an additional numismatic value.

My personal crystal ball thinks Silver will top $19 at some point this year, but will bounce between $16-18 the majority of the year. Just my .02

Buy low, sell high.

I think silver has much better potential for appreciation than gold.

Silver is used in premium quality wires for electrical applications since it conducts electricity better then copper.

Silver is being used in high end appliances for it's germicidal properties. Washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, etc.

IMOH any precious metal, silver & gold, will keep on going.
Paper is paper & sooner or later They will have to monetize the debt.

Perhaps the making of a solid gold debit card? Can't be counterfeited with the embedded chip. You pay for the amount as collateral and top off your balance as you go. XTREME

Buy tons of coins and bullion ... look at it, rearrange it, grade it, feel it, store it, play with it, keep it ... it sounds like the future of silver is "fun" ...

Being replaced with Fiber Optic wiring. Much, much better for carrying information, no corrosion, no theft, etc.
Same with Copper wiring and cables. Even Grounding systems are switching to Aluminum due to theft and corrosion of Copper.
As an example ComEd in Illinois recently replaced most of their substation communication systems with Fiber Optics from Mid Illinois to the furthest Norther areas. Previous Copper removed and sent for recycling.
Microwave systems, satilite communications is making the necessity of using metallic wires obsolete. Note the massive increase in Cell Phones is making wiring to the home also, obsolete.

Also, obsolete. Solid state electronics is making the necessity of contacts more and more unnecessary. As an example try finding an auto with points in the distributor. AT&T used to have massive rolls of switches in their distribution centers with contacts. Now all gone due to electronic switching systems.
Contacts are a thing of the past.

As college kid who works fixing cars and computers on the side. I have only worked on one engine with points in the last 3 years. As far as new wiring, the only thing I see copper being used in consistantly is Romex! Silver solder is only used in repairs of old stuff and hobbies. Computers use such an insignifigant ammount of silver now...I'd venture less than a thenth of an ounce per machine, which will be replaced soon. Just Carl could not be more correct.
