Good afternoon,

I came across this dollar bill at work and thought it was quite cool. Does anyone have information on what this type of error is called/how it happens/and value of the bill?

Thanks

its called a wet ink transfer and it should be valued around $5 if it was full, like mine, it would be valued around $40.

good find!

Yup, it's a wet ink transfer. Right after the notes are printed, they are stacked one on top of another (in huge sheets). Some of the ink doesn't dry as quickly, so when they are stacked, the weight from the other notes press the wet ink into the note below it.

haha for $5? I'll be a pal and give you double that. But your 88A series (quite rare now!) looks to be in high XF+ grade (no folds I see or considerable wear) so I'd give it around $30-50 or so. The market for these notes not like other notes, because they're rare and there isn't an established price for them. Guess it depends on who wants to pay what, but I'd give about $30-50 for it.

Nice find J

wd, if I may -
How high have you seen something like this go? I am new to this arena and would think that even $50 may be on low side as the frequency of occurrence is rather low (right / wrong / maybe).

Thanks

Peace

I think on ebay I've seen full transfer ones get priced as high as $200. Whether or not anyone buys it is the problem.

I think (I'm not sure either!) $50 would be a good price, although there could be people willing to pay more. That's the problem with error money: no real set price.
