I know repunched means the number was punched more than once but how do you detect it? When I look at the picture I don't see anything unusual. Does it decrease the value of a coin? Image: 1901 Ob.jpg70.35 KB Image: 1901 Re.jpg71.38 KB

To me it looks the same as other numbers. It doesn't belong to me, although I might consider buying it. Its a MS63 for $40

That's a nice speciman! A classic coin in its own time. Too bad now we are stuck with boring presidents...

Buffaloboy, repunched is essentially doubling in a number or letter, visit coneca's online database for RPMs (same idea).

I agree that a repunched date would be doubled and not flatened as stated above. All repunched mintmarks I have seen were all doubled and I dont think a date would be any different

Hi Shatsi
I dont see anything in the pic that makes me think repunched date on this coin,,
Its a pretty coin and probly within reason value wise at 40.00,, is the coin slabbed ? raw?
What do you see the grade of the coin as ?

Buffaloboy please don't take this personally. When commenting on any post(I don't necessarily mean this one) state when you are merely making a guess or giving an opninion. Some of your posts may confusing to others and myself when you make a post that sounds accurate and factual when it really is based on a guess or opinion. I enjoy your reading your posts and your community spirit!!

We're not going to be able to see it from a view of the whole coin. You would have to post of blow-up of just the date area. And even that might be hard to see anything. If there is some kind of minor imperfection that you see, it may not really matter for an MS63, they're not suppose to be perfect. Besides, perfection doesen't really exist in anything but egos. Even on MS70's the "perfection" will become an "Maalox Moment" when the first speck shows up. But the coin in your scan looks pretty nice to me.
