What should one expect to pay for pennies from 1920-1949? Or the more recent Newfoundland pennies?

I went to a store in Toronto today, some were in 2x2s some were just loose change in a bowl. The sign said they were assorted and 50 cents each.

that seems steep to me. I think I recall somewhere on this forum it being mentioned that they should be about 20 cents each and if you buy them bulk you can get them cheaper. 20 cents sounds much more reasonable. What do you think?

And does anyone know what such coins go for a Taylors? :)

Let's put it this way. If anyone wants to pay me 50 cents each for circulated 1920-1949 pennies, I'll quit my job and start going threw rolls.

Hi,

I believe at Taylor's that the only way they are getting in 2x2s is if they are higher grades. You can find the cents there probably in their "junk" bins for quite cheap. They used to have a flea market space at Dixie mall and they had big bins on the counters that the coins were about 10 cents each and I was always able to pick out the Newfoundland and canadian cents from there. Not sure if they have that bin in the store as well though. Taylor's is REALLY decent about fair pricing with all of their coins. I have never once doubted or even second checked the prices they place on their coins and in all these years have never been let down by them.

Thanks Malissa! Do you know if the place in Dixie Mall is still around?

Hi Splatto, they closed the flea market booth a couple of years ago. kind of partial retirement for charles and his wife but you can never really get them out of the coin game completely. they just love it. Their store though is extremely easy to find since it's right on the corner almost. Its worth going I can tell you that. I travel over an hour to get there from Scarborough and if I had the money I would make the trip every day.
