I am building a nice Morgan set and wondering if I can use an existing gun safe I have for storage. My current safe has a goldenrod to take out humidity, but I am concerned that the lubricants/preservatives I have on my firearms might somehow leach into coins, most of which are in PCGS or NGC slabs and sealed proof sets.

Should I use existing safe, or just buy another one, and if so anny recommendations for a safe? Thanks in advance.

I am not that familiar with gun lubricants, do they have a high VOC content? If you dont know a simple test is when you open the safe, can you smell the oils? If you can I would say probally not a good idea. Unless you get an airtight box and place your morgans in that, then place that in the safe. Then they would be safe from the VOCs even if they were there.

Yes, they are supposed to be low VOC, but I can smell it. Maybe I should just be a smaller safe exclusively for the collection.

One other point, if I were to get a larger gun safe and move them out, would there be any residual orders/gases that could harm the coins?

My husband, the ordnance man says that if you take all of the guns and the ammo out that it would be safe.
