I came back from my local coin show today and with 3 purchases, pictures taken with the best result are the 1939 mercury. All are shot with different angle and lighting, but they have the same quality as the 39 mercury. Blast White!

Now. I would like to see what would your grades be against the dealers in my area.

pictures are tough to use...

guessing:

1923: MS61; 62 on a push...very distracting bag marks
1939: MS62; 63 on a push...bag mark location is an eyesore...beautifully struck
1938D: Too blurry; it's hard to see how the obverse high points were worn down.

Hard enough to see if there's a rub in person, much less a blurry pic...so assuming they are MS coins, they appear to be gems.

1st one: MS65+
2nd: MS66+
3rd can't tell

Rest in Peace

I'm right in the middle and I think the first would grade 63 and second 64. The marks aren't too distracting imo, but still will affect the grade on smaller coins.

It takes a little imagination on these dimes...I bet in hand, without magnification, most of those marks are hardly visible.

Steve, you're right that I needed a 10-20x loupe to see some of these marks.
The dealer I purchase these from label it MS 63.
But I think they are at least high 64, maybe 65, some of the coins I compare with what I have in 64 or 65 TPG mercury have more contact marks.
I will tried taking pictures again without the flap.

Steve, I think a lot of (serious?) collectors look at their coins with magnification for pleasure as well as evaluation. I know I do. The magnified world is such a beautiful place !!

I look at coins through magnification, too. All the time. But doing so doesn't change grading standards...small marks that all of a sudden look like potholes are still just small marks.

If you give a coin like these an MS61 or MS62, you leave no grading space for MS coins that have more contact marks, and more serious marks that aren't so tiny.
