I wanted to get some input as to whether or not the group thought this coin is a counterfeit. I sure don't like the spacing of the letters. But then again, I'm no expert.........yet

I should note that the coin is 10.3 grams and 29 mm from what I have read, this is right on target.

It looks just fine, the specs are right on the money, the design is correct. For 1730 halfpennies I have notes that varieties of stops on the obverse exist, and there's a variety with misspelled name (GEOGIVS) which yours clearly is not. Nice coin!

Actually this is a puzzling piece. I looked through a few examples on the net, the letters seem to be varied from coin to coin, but I haven't noticed that kind of "R" (in GEORGIVS). My book says there was an abundance of contemporary counterfeits but the point of doing it was to produce underweight coins.

I concur with svslav. This one is a bit puzzling to me as well. I checked specimens on Spink's, coinarchives, and a few vendors. No specimens seemed to have the serifed "R" at the top of stem as pictured in this specimen, nor do any of the specimens appear to have a STOP above the young bust as this specimen appears to have.

I'm wondering if the extra-long serif on the R, as well as the blob attached to the top of his head and the blob in front of his eyes, are just die chips/cracks.
