Ok ... the 1942 has some issues ... obviously severely cleaned and an ebay purchase

The 1942D is a little better ... another ebay purchase a while back and cleaned (their pictures always look so much better...) ...

The 1942S is the best of the lot ... circulated, but not cleaned and a hand-me-down from an Uncle

Bust makes a point though if you look at the price guides. There is very little difference in a G4 and an XF40. If buying for anything other than scrap, try to get the very best examples possible. Now - if these are just from scrap lots and just fillers until you upgrade......great.

The top one (1942)is in pretty horrible shape and looks to have been harshly cleaned to me. The 2nd is VG8 (cleaned) and the 42-s I'd go F12.
