This is my latest purchase. It's in a PCGS problem-free slab.

Any guesses on the grade?

Is it wear or because of the low relief it appears to be worn.

I'm just not seeing wear. The eagle's shoulder is not only strongly struck but lustrous, and that's where I expect to see wear on a Peace dollar before any other part of the coin. The hair is typically-struck, looks worn but the reverse would show something if it actually *were* wear.

MS64, and a nice one for that.

I think MS64. Better struck than many. I could see it as 65 if the luster is great- which is hard to judge from a photo, of course.

I hate trying to grade Peace dollars because they are very weakly struck and I find it hard to tell a AU coin from a BU coin. Judging by others I have seen graded I guess I would say this one it probably a MS-63 and maybe even a 64 but Since its a Peace dollar it could very well be a AU-58 as well and I wouldn't know the difference

MS63-minus. I think everyone's expecting a far better strike than is possible with these low-relief dies. There is so little wear on this coin. The E in Liberty is my concern point. Also - is the "OF - AM" on the reverse worn, or is that area simply toned?

We've had some very close guesses but nobody has hit it yet.

Here's a little 1921 Peace dollar info for those who may want to do more reading:

The Peace dollar is a silver United States dollar coin minted from 1921 to 1928, then again in 1934 and 1935. Early proposals for the coin called for a commemorative issue to coincide with the end of World War I, but the Peace dollar was issued as a circulating coin.

Roughly one million examples were struck [in 1921] before it was realized that the relief on the coin was so high that it was difficult to strike, and the dies used were breaking at a high rate. The relief was lowered starting with the 1922 issue, resulting in the High Relief 1921 Peace dollar being both the First Year of Issue and the Only year for the Type.
