Rescued this from a garage sale blue Whitman. Unfortunately, some of the others might not be able to be saved. It looks like an RPM, but I can't match it up. Any ideas?

That is known as the 1949-S spinner variety.

I won't quit my day job.

Can you get a closer shot of the "S?" What I see is something going on on the upper serif and in the loop of the lower serif but I dont know if that's lighting or metal.

have you compared it to coneca?

I wouldn't expect you to quit your day job!

What is the 1949-S spinner variety? I've never heard of that one.

I'm not sure how comparing it to a bunch of text on Coneca could do any good. Without photos that site is basically useless.

You would have to bring the mintmark in a LOT closer for anyone to tell whether it's an RPM. If it is one, it's minor.

Tried to get you better pics, Jim, but it was difficult to get anything better than what I posted, confirming Chuck's analysis that it's just not worth it.

I agree with the CONECA remark, I need pics.

Spinner variety - I'll just have to take your word for it that it was funny. I love a punchline just as much as the next guy.

the best you could get is pretty good, Scooby...nice picture. I'll have to go through a roll or two of this date/mint to compare mm punches; but, I suspect it's not a RPM.

Meanwhile, back at the lincolnresource.net ranch, I'm looking at 49S's with DDO and see the 4 on your coin was dinged down, possibly obscuring the primary marker for a 49S DDO Class III with the same "S" punch.

I dont know if this link will take you there: http://www.lincolncentresource.net/...ad.php?t=577 -- I had to sign in.

It's 454 am; meaning seeing anything is possible at the moment. It's a labor of love 24/7 !!

I would still have to go with completely not sure on this one. I would probably have to see the coin in hand, then I could likely tell you within a second whether it's an RPM.

Scooby; I looked at several 49S's and it seems the anomaly on the upper serif of the S isn't uncommon.

Scooby, when you have poor photographic equipment, as I do, sometimes a second light source helps. Not recomended, puts a glare on the coin, but does remove shadows allowing others to see what your seeing.

I'm seeing (or think I'm seeing) what looks like notching at the top and bottom of the serif as well as the bottom right curve of the S.
