I'm filling a half dozen collections for people from F and up so I'm looking a little at everything to get a sense of what's out there. Then I checked out this little number.... http://cgi.ebay.com/1927-25-cents-c...in_W0QQitemZ380195208478QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_2?hash=item5885667d1e On the reverse at about three o'clock there's an obvious and large bang in the rim. On the picture of the obverse I don't see it. There's two explanations that come to mind for me. The first is, it's a different coin in the two shots. The second is, I'm blind or close enough to that such that I am missing it. Comment?

I'm guessing the seller wasn't paying attention and posted the wrong picture for either the reverse or obverse for this one.

Maybe the black back ground was added after the fact, and the software used to do it misinterpreted the edge? Ask the seller if you otherwise like the coin.

Strange. Maybe there's a third possibility: the ding is angled, affecting the reverse only. Perhaps the black you see is a shadow, not the background.

Two different coins would be my guess. The lighting looks different.

But on the fourth photo, I don't see any woodgrain under the ding.

I agree with BBID that it is angled. Its the same coin in both pics. On the revese, you see a scratch (or die break) from the 't' in cents to the 'd' in Canada. On th obverse, there is a black dot right smack behind Geroge's head below the crowm

Not so weird, I had a similar coin , A 1929 half that had this type of ding on 1 side only ..Other side was perfect

I am going to guess that there are 2 different coins involved here. The ding looks too big not to affect the obverse, and the little ding shown on the last picture does not appear on the first reverse. ( I believe it is the top leaves). It is easy enopugh to mix up pictures if you are making a lot. I would recomment that you talk to the seller if you are interested in the coin.

I suggest the last picture straightens everything for us. Same coin, trick angle and lighting.

Yes the final photo shows what's going on. Seems like the seller must have been reading this post since more photos were added in order to show the ding. Good on them.

agreed thank you seller.
I just thought it was interesting, I make listing mistakes all the time - maybe because I sell so rarely.
