I haven't seen anyone discuss finds from quarter rolls. I know they are difficult when it comes to silver but I am considering searching as people hoard them as well. There has to be some mother lodes out there.
Anyone got any input or roll finds they'd like to share?

Be prepared to see a lot of State Quarters. I think quarters have been heavily searched because of those, but also wonder if some silver has sneaked back in because of the economy.

geez, you guys might be making up my mind for me. I might try it just to see if I can hit somebody's hoard deposit.

i worked at a bank for a couple of years back in college and found lots of silver dimes, 40% halves, Ikes, but only 1 or 2 silver quarters. I think people notice those the most because of the size and it's easy to pick out the distinct sound. dimes not so much because they're smaller, easier to overlook and the sound of silver dimes can easily be muffled with other coins. but now that I think about it, I did come across a Standing Liberty quarter while working. I think it was dateless, which might be why someone put it back into circulation.

Don't bother searching quarters unless you want to fill State Quarter sets.

I've searched two boxes of quarters in the last month and found nothing (I was trying to fill out my State Quarters) and the only one I've ever found in "circulation" was a 44 in a roll my mother in law was going to take back to the bank.

I have searched about 5 boxes of quarters in the past year and I have found two silver quarters, both 1964-D. I have also found a couple others in circulation over the years, also 1964-D. I have heard a few others say they found ones from the late 50's or early 60's. I plan to search more boxes in the coming weeks and months to see if can find any more.

Canadian quarters are just as bad. All you get is those commemorative quarters. I've collected a complete type set from purely what's in my change. Anyone can do it. But don't give up on your pre-1965.

I was considering getting 10 boxes - probably the amount you would need to make it worthwhile. Then again, the amount of effort that would involve to find 1 if I'm lukcy isn't worth it. I think I'd rather get 10 boxes of dimes since I know I will probably come away with 4 or 5 silvers from that.

Two years ago, I got a 1942 from a roll of quarters I bought at a grocery store. Earlier this year I found a 1959 sitting on shelf of a CoinStar (strangely not in the return tray, just sitting on top).
This is not an endorsement for roll searching quarters. That said, if you are friendly with some tellers at area banks, then it can't hurt to have them let you know when the old lady from down the street brings in rolls of quarters. How common are the solid orange paper wrappers these days? A possible indicator of treasure within? I don't know.

out of all of the customer rolls of quarters I ever saw at the bank (there were many) only one ever contained any silver, a single mutilated 1951. I did manage to find about half a roll's worth in bags from the coin machines though. Probably one out of every four bags or so contained at least one silver quarter. The best bag I ever saw contained about a dozen silver quarters including an slq, unfortunately it was sealed and set for shipment so I couldnt touch it. I would say just from looking at the bags that the adverage per box is probly around 1 silver per 4 boxes in the long run. Nickels and dimes produce more silver than quarters do, I adveradge around 1 per box with each of those.

I was searching a box of quarters, and found a 1999 Belize Quarter !! Pretty cool I thought ! I don't know how common those are, but I'd never seen one before.

I search quarters mainly for errors/varieties. I've only found 2 silver Washington quarters roll searching. I've found a NEW DDR for the New Mexico State Quarter- attributed by Dr.James Wiles for me (Coneca). 2008P 1 DDR-003 3-R-VIII. I've also found 2 real nice DDR's on the Washington DC Quarter where the E in Wellington is doubled. 2009P 1 DDR-007 and 2009P 1 DDR-011.(Coneca) There are some nice errors/varieties out there besides just looking for silver. Happy Hunting!
