It has all the diagnostics of a 1917 altered date in my opinion.

I agree with Johnny. The strong strike and shield detail makes it an altered 1917.

On the other hand, this one looks genuine to me and has a very reasonable starting price: http://cgi.ebay.com/1916-Standing-L...em3a5a199507the problem I have is the fact that it is raw and the seller states "no returns"...I actually emailed him last night about that, and if he would be willing to send it in for certification before selling or allow an extended return policy for the buyer to send it in. No response yet. It may be a great deal, but is VERY risky spending that kind of money on a raw key date off of ebay.....you gotta be a big gambler, and I'm certainly not that big of one.

Quote: The strong strike and shield detail makes it an altered 1917. Yes! All the diagnostics we have been discussing recently ALL point to this coin NOT being a 1916. Shame on this seller!

I think Lafaa was referring to the one you posted, which is definitely a 1916. It could very possibly be a great deal, but the chance it has been cleaned and the somewhat poor scans would make me stay away from it. Unless the seller provides a reassuring reply to Johnny's email.

Johnny - I think the one you posted is likely authentic. The head location, hair, drapery, crease in drapery, etc., look to match up. Do you have $2,500 laying around? LOL.
