ICCS grades way too strict, and they have dominated the grading market because of it.
If anyone disagrees with their strict grade, and assigns it a proper grade. They will look like they are being generous with their grading, thus appearing uneducated. Please don't submit to ICCS, the only way, IMO, to get them to smarten up with their grading is for less people to send their coins in. By being overly strict is just as bad as being overly loose when it comes to grading. Both are poor ways to approach collecting and grading.
If someone grades a coin that IS XF, and they label it as a VF-30 (which is what ICCS does) in my eyes it is just as uneducated as if someone grades an XF coin AU-55.
One day I hope someone claws their way into the Canadian Marketplace, grades coins appropriately, puts coins in tamper proof slabs, and when that day comes, I will submit my collection to them.
Just as a warning everyone. I personally know someone in Edmonton who frequently challenges others to pull their ICCS coins out of their flips, resubmit them, and see how they come back. (trying to raise awareness of human error in TPG grading) And he says everytime:
"If they come back lower grade I will seal them back in the original ICCS slab. The technology is out there, and people are doing it. Time for ICCS to change a few more things than just their grading.

I suspect you are right regarding their grading standards. I find the sealed flips too insecure to warrant much confidence. I'm not sure why they are supported in the Canadian community the way they are.

Wow, I can't believe this is how long it took to get a comment on this. Thanks for taking the time Pater.
A whole seperate forum even linked to this one and started talking about it.
But Yes, I agree with you, I don't quite understand why they are so supported either. And I hope one day a company finds their way in and grades coins appropriately.

I find your lack on inclusion of CCCS as interesting.

HOW do you know it is XF ? just by YOU saying so?
well, I could say: in my opinion it is AU.....right?

all someone has to do is to write NORMS and very specific guidelines which everyone has to adhere to......BY LAW !!
then we have no problems...

But as long as there are the Heritages, the Stacks, the Teletrades, the J&M's etc, who submit tons of coins every months to be graded, there will always be discrepancies and disagreements.
SO, which TPG do YOU think should come to Canada?
I propose NOT to use any TPG at all and let the object speak for itself...then a buyer will pay what the buyer wishes to pay and NOT what a TPG grade suggests.....
OH, I believe CCCS has hard slabs, supposedly fool proof?.

it is tough being a nice coin... right?

AS long as we continue to use TPG's we get what we pay for. Either you pay your money and get the coin certified or you don't pay and get no certification. It is everyone's personal choice as to who, when and how much they are willing to pay and to whom they wish to pay their money to.
I appreciate hearing anyone's point of view on the topic - that is your democratic right - free speech - but only once please. Problems of this magnitude have stumped the world for eons and will probably continue to do so for many more eons. It is MHO that this topic has been hammered to death should be buried with dignity.

This is why I avoid mint-state coins based on somebody else's word. I go for XF, AU..

Shrug, I don't post over there because the forum format is all but useless to me. I last saw that forum format in the late 90's bundled with Frontpage 97.

As to the grading, I will send to TPG's to sell surplus to those who can't grade but I prefer to come to an agreement with whomever I am dealing with and cut the TPG's out. This is how we used to do it before they came along. I've asked as to quality of service and standards in other posters opinions, but it's not because I hate one or the other grader but simply desire more information.

As far as having this discussion here, whyever not?

@HH you can't reasonably legislate an opinion. Leave that kind of thing to more socialist environments.
