Can anyone make this coin out well enough to make a rough call on grade?

That's a tough call. I have an inkling it's retoning, and in about 6 years, it'll be pitch black. I think this one has been over dipped in the past, and that black toning creeping in on the top is going to spread. I would grade it around the same everyone else is. Probably XF-AU

I'm filling sets for a cousin of mine so I took a chance on it and paid VF 30 money. If it's awful I'll pick up another. I'll update this thread when it arrives. Unlike a lot of these under MS grades there were only the three little rim dings so the overall appearance wasn't too bad (or I figured it wouldn't be too bad in hand).

Solid EF no doubt , but in hand might even be EF45 to AU +
Let me know what others you are looking for Ugly, I just got rid of a bunch , but have others (other than the 08 )

OK I received this coin and I was quite happy with it. Better than I expected overall and a LOT better than the filler I was going to put in. No comparison. Thanks for your opinions.

How will it grade now that you have it in hand? Would it be possible to see the Rev?

I called it EF in hand, this scan is very flat but scans are great at showing off high point wear (but hiding luster)

Can't believe the scan either, it diminishes three dimensional depth in the center of every scan, that's just how cheap scanners work.
I really do need to get that macro lens on the camera, fishscales are just way to fartin teeny tiny for the average camera. It works fine for anything down to a quarter but after that it's hit and miss without it.

Hi HH That doesn't change the stretching and thinning in an image since 1200DPI is an extrapolated setting full of empty pixels. A scanner in the 15K + range based on a Photo Multiplier Tube can fix this though It's like a digital zoom function. Some are better than others but all are just a compromise based on the ability of the lens to capture reflection from the CCT or LEDs. These small lens scanners all curve small targets just like a fisheye lens on a camera makes round things egg shaped. The background colour won't change that but granted it WILL change the coins surface colour in a scan. What it can't do is change the definition etc... Not too worried about this coin, would never send it to grade since it has a surface corrosion spot where that green flash is in the obverse and would end up with a details note anyhow. I'll halt the tiny spot and it will stay in my cousins album likely for a long time. This will be a good coin to re-shoot with the new setup though.

Ugly, for what it is worth, this coin came off a "freshly" repunched die with the "maltese cross" over a "full" bowtie. Nice example.

Thanks for the footnotes CRF, appreciate that. I was attracted to it initially by the strong definition in these areas even with the tiny pictures I had.
My bad photography aside, it still shows a lot of luster on the reverse and a slightly lesser but still significant quantity on the obverse.
